Today, I’m reporting on the legislative tug-of-war over the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles. Fossil fuel interests on one end, literally everyone else on the other. This fight arose when the suits over at Exxon, Shell, and Koch Industries became worried about the potential of electric vehicles (EVs) to mess with their 90 percent share of transportation fuel in the U.S. And you know what? They should be worried. The EV market is small but growing fast, and there have been tons of production milestones and new model releases over the past quarter. Read more >

Is Tesla Doomed? The cases for and against the electric vehicle pioneer.
July 26, 2018 1:25 PM EDT
Tesla is at a crossroads. Earlier this month the California company hit the limit for the electric vehicle (EV) federal tax credit, meaning the full $7,500 credit will only be available to those who are delivered a Tesla before the end of 2018. As a result, Tesla’s already expensive vehicles are set to get even more expensive, especially compared to other EVs that still qualify for the tax credit. I don’t want to predict what exactly will happen to Tesla. Instead, I can detail why Tesla may succeed or fail irrespective of the broader EV industry, which is set to overtake gasoline-powered vehicles over the next decade. Read more >

Hey Congress! Here’s Why You Can’t Scrap The Electric Vehicle Tax Credit
November 17, 2017 9:14 AM EDT
The fate of the federal tax credit for electric vehicles hangs in the balance. Georgia May Shift to Reverse on EV Progress
March 30, 2015 10:53 AM EDT
Georgia’s leadership on electric vehicle (EV) adoption is in jeopardy. The two transportation bills that are before a 6-member conference committee in the Georgia legislature would cut the $5,000 state tax credit for EVs in Georgia starting July 1 and create a $200 yearly user fee for EV drivers in the state. This one-two punch to EVs is bad news for a state that, in 2014, saved $10 million on fuel costs and avoided the burning of 4.5 million gallons of gasoline thanks to EVs. Read more >
Why Electric Vehicles Matter in Georgia (and your state too!)
February 11, 2015 10:27 AM EDT
Electric vehicles (EVs) are crushing it in Georgia. Surprised? You shouldn’t be. EVs cost less to fuel, are fun to drive, and can greatly reduce your environmental footprint – especially when paired with sources of renewable energy like solar or wind power. Read more >
